What’s in a name?

Fern & Moon comes from the idea of two seemingly separate elements working together to create something beautiful. Like our bridal separates, or a good marriage, some things are beautiful apart but better together, like ferns in the moonlight.

Also full disclosure Karen and Keira run a branding and web design studio called Polychrome Creative, and they really like the letters in Fern & Moon.

Where are things made?

Everything is made in Vancouver BC. From design to manufacturing, we keep things local.

If you are in and around the Vancouver area and would like to see our pieces in person, get in touch to set up an appointment!

What is Made to Order?

Made to Order means we do not have a standing inventory of pieces. Instead, we begin making your gown when you place your order, which helps us stay true to our values of having a waste-free line. Because items are Made to Order, we suggest you purchase your gown 4 or more months before your wedding to leave lots of time for processing, shipping, and alterations.

How is it different from Custom Made?

Custom Made, or Made to Measure gowns require clients to provide accurate measurements, and a dress is created based on these specifications. Custom made dresses often require multiple alterations to achieve the right fit, which can be costly and time consuming.

We prefer the Made to Order process where client’s choose their size on our chart. Most people are familiar with this process (who hasn’t loaded a cart up from Asos or Everlane), and thanks to the nature of wedding dress shopping it is becoming common knowledge that items can take a few fittings to achieve the desired look.

Can I try things on?

Depending on sample availability, we may be able to ship a “Try on at Home” box to you! This way you can see the pieces for yourself, and get a sense of what designs you like best. You pay the cost of shipping and send the samples back to us once you’ve tried them on! Contact us if you’d like to know more.

For those living in Vancouver BC or planning a visit, send us a message about stopping by our studio.

How long should I order before my wedding?

We recommend ordering 4 months in advance of your wedding to leave time for processing, shipping and alterations. Contact us directly if you require faster turnaround times! Even if we can’t meet your needs, we may have ideas and suggestions for workarounds that match up with your timeline.

How long will it take to make my gown?

It takes us about 8 weeks to make your gown, plus shipping. Most wedding dresses require some alterations to find your perfect fit, so contact your local dress tailor to ensure you leave enough time for adjustments and fittings. We typically recommend ordering a dress at least 4 months before your wedding so you have enough time for all of the above, but contact us directly if you are in a rush!

Can you go any faster?

Maybe! Get in touch directly if you are in a rush and we will see what we can do!

How long does it take to ship?

Shipping times vary depending on where you are located, but we can expedite the process if you would like to get in touch!

Typically we would recommend leaving 8 weeks for processing, and then another 2-4 weeks for shipping, depending on how far you live from Vancouver (we’re lookin’ at you South Africa).

What is “waste-free”?

Fern & Moon is a waste-free line, meaning we save all of our offcuts for future use. Currently, our scraps of fabric are going towards an upcoming lingerie line.

I’m between sizes, what should I order?

Definitely size up. The more fabric you give a tailor to work with the easier it is to adjust seams until they are the desired fit. As people who frequently say “but boobs are squishy so what’s a quarter inch” we completely understand the desire to choose the closest size, but a size up will give you way more possibilities!

This size is perfect, but the bust/waist/hips are too small?

When selecting your garments, we always recommend you size up (at this point you are probably guessing we say this in our sleep). Even if one measurement is a hair smaller than you are, you’ll find you are able to tailor your pieces to a much better fit when there is more fabric to work with. It’s always easier to take in a few inches than it is to let out even the smallest amount.

Almost all wedding dresses need some alterations, and our pieces are made with easy tailoring in mind. If you have any questions about sizing or fit we are happy to help walk you through the process and make recommendations.

What alterations can I make?

So many! From removing the train, to shortening the straps the possibilities are endless (ok not endless, we just lost count). If you want to hear more ideas for items, get in touch, we would love to talk you through alterations to get your garment “just right”.

Skirts can be shortened to cocktail length for a fun, modern vibe, bustles can be added so you can dance without risk of injury, and adjustments can be made so waist and hips fit just right.

Bodysuits can be taken in, cups moved, and seams reshaped to act like a bra so you don’t need to wear one.

Do you accept returns or exchanges?

Because items are Made to Order we are unable to accept returns or exchanges. However we genuinely want our brides to be happy, so please get in touch with your questions or concerns, we really want to help and maybe there’s a work around we just waiting to be discovered!

Can I cancel my order?

If you are able to cancel your order within 24 hours of it being placed, then yes! After the 24 hour mark we begin the process of making your gown.

If you have missed the 24 hour window we may not be able to cancel your order, but that doesn’t mean we can’t help. Get in touch and we’ll see what else we can do!
